Rocky is an American sports drama film directed by John G. Avildsen and written by Sylvester Stallone. It tells the story of Rocky Balboa, an uneducated but good-hearted working class man who lives in a poor Philadelphia neighborhood.

Rocky is a small-time boxer who gets a chance to fight for the heavyweight championship of the world when the reigning champion, Apollo Creed, selects him as an opponent. The film follows Rocky as he trains for the fight and tries to win the respect of his girlfriend, Adrian. Along the way, Rocky must confront his own self-doubt and prove to himself and the world that he is capable of achieving greatness.

Thanks to its authenticity storyline the film was a critical and commercial success, spawning several sequels over many decades.
