Originally named Cadabra, Amazon is widely known these days as being one of the largest shopping sites in the world. Originally starting out selling books, the founder of Amazon (Jeff Bezos) has gone on to expand Amazon’s footprint into multiple markets since it was founded back in 1994.
Getting Amazon started, Jeff and his wife rented out a three bedroom home in Seattle, Washington. The home had a reasonably sized garage which was perfect for Jeff and his wife to launch their new business ‘Cadabra’. The name Cadabra was short lived when it was continuously getting mispronounced ‘Cadaver’, so Jeff actually decided to change the name to Amazon.
With everything in place and the initial investment of $10,000 of his own money to get the business started, Jeff, his wife and 2 programmers began working on Amazon.
Not so long into the project Jeff attained multiple $100,000 investments from his parents and in 1995 Amazon officially launched.
